I had a parrot when I was a boy. Often I neglected to clean its cage and forgot to give it food and clean water. He shrieked a lot because he was hungry for attention, and when I would open his cage, he would try to bite my hand. He must have felt frustrated and conflicted after living his whole life in captivity. I still feel a deep connection to that bird, and I still dream about him. When I remember him, I feel sorry about his being locked in a cage like that poorly cared for, AND I CRY.As an adult, I've seen flocks of wild parrots flying over the forests in Brazil, Bolivia and Mexico. Their CRIES OF FREEDOM captivate and enthrall me.
